We set up our tents among the Mahua trees, and cooked up a quick meal of rice and egg curry on a campfire. That first night, soon after turning in, I was awoken by guano (bat droppings) falling on the roof of my tent. In pitch darkness, I fumbled and covered the tent with tarpaulin and went back to sleep. Not long after, I was awoken again when a rain shower drenched my tent – leaving me with no choice but to take refuge with my colleagues.
